Three people have been detained after they were found in possession of dagga on April 9. The Glencoe SAPS were performing their duties searching vehicles on the weigh bridge N11, when they stopped a kombi heading for Johannesburg.
When they searched the kombi there were three passengers carrying bags which were also searched.
The passengers were transporting dagga inside their bags. According to the Glencoe Communications Officer Sergeant Dlamini, one of the bags belonged to Thandiwe Gono (23) of Marikana location in Secunda and the dagga weighed 3.35 kg.
Her accomplice, Nomusa Mdoli (48) and Votelani Zwane (21) carried dagga weighing 6kg in two separate plastic bags. Inside Mr Zwane’s and Miss Mdoli’splastic bags they found about 330 loose dagga joints.
The suspects appeared in the Glencoe Magistrate’s Court on April 10 and pleaded guilty of the charge of being found in possession of dagga.
Their sentence was either a fine of R4000 each or to serve 12 months in prison.
They were all fined R4000 each. Communications Officer Dlamini praised the officers who made the arrests and urged them to ‘continue with their exceptional job and act accordingly in such situations.’
