Police seize homemade shot gun, man arrested
The suspect failed to produce proof of purchase and was arrested. He is appearing at Nongoma Magistrate’s Court today for possession of suspected stolen property

Police have arrested a 53-year-old man for possession of a homemade shotgun at Dabhazi area at Nongoma. The Nongoma police received information about the suspect who was in possession of a firearm, then they responded and proceeded to the house of the suspect. Police requested to search the house and recovered a homemade shotgun. The suspect was arrested, charged for possession of illegal firearm and the firearm was seized. He is appearing in the Nongoma Magistrate Court yesterday.
In another incident, one pistol was also recovered in the area of Mfemfeni today. It is alleged that a child was doing home errands, digging for traditional herbs when a .38 special revolver with eight live rounds of ammunition was dug out. The father reported the matter to Nongoma police and the firearm was seized. Both firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain whether they were used in other criminal offences.
On April 20 at Nongoma CBD, police arrested a 22-year-old suspect who was found in possession of allegedly stolen goods. Police were busy patrolling in town when they received information about a suspect selling a Samsung DVD player, subwoofer and four speakers. The suspect will be profiled to ascertain if he can be linked to a spate of housebreaking cases around town. The suspect failed to produce proof of purchase and was arrested. He is appearing at Nongoma Magistrate’s Court today for possession of suspected stolen property.
The Provincial Commissioner in KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the members for the arrest of the suspects. “This shows that working together between community and the police can make a huge difference in decreasing crime in our society,” she said.
