Dundee’s rich mining heritage enhanced thanks to SACMA

Only two of the members present at the meeting had previously visited the museum and they expressed their amazement at the size of the museum, variety of displays and quantity of information in the archives.

Dundee’s rich mining heritage is being kept alive at Talana Museum thanks to members of the South African Colliery Managers Association, SACMA, who meet regularly at the Museum conference room.
The mining exhibit at the Museum was recently upgraded thanks to a donation from SACMA.
“The original exhibit mounted in 1985 was in dire need of upgrading, modernising and bringing up to date with reference to the information on the display panels,” said curator Pam McFadden. SACMA members recently visited the Museum with the idea that they would be able to view the mining exhibits and seeing how the upgrade was progressing and their funds were being spent.
“Only two of the members present at the meeting had previously visited the museum and they expressed their amazement at the size of the museum, variety of displays and quantity of information in the archives.
“They were also extremely impressed with the progress on the upgrading on the display,” said Pam.
Residents are urged to visit the Museum (free entry for South Africans on Saturdays) to see for themselves what has been done to ensure that the area’s rich heritage is preserved for future generations.
