SACP commemorates the lives of past comrades

More than 100 SACP members from 24 different branches listened to an extremely informative lecture by Yunus Karim

The South African Communist Party (SACP), Ukhahlamba District, commemorated the great lives of Moses Kotane and JP Marx at the Town Hall on Sunday. More than 100 SACP members from 24 different branches in the district attended and listened to an extremely informative lecture by Yunus Karim (central committee member and also politburo member).

Comrade Xaba opened the meeting by articulating the achievements of the different branches and after a few moving songs, the speaker on the day was introduced, as well as a comrade from the Palestine Movement.

Comrade Karim then embarked on a detailed purview of the global forces currently in play and explained how the fiscal polices of the affluent West impact on South Africa and much of the developing world. Comrade Karim reminisced about past comrades and very succinctly put into context the role of the Communist Party in finally expunging totalitarian rule.

After Yunus Karim’s lecture, a Palestinian who attended was given the chance to talk and gave an emotional account of the Palestinians’ plight.

According to the SACP: “West of the Jordan River is the recently-formed State of Israel and within this small country are two territories marked out to imprison the majority of the Palestinian people. The West Bank is surrounded by a wall, but is a much larger territory than the Gaza Strip, which is the largest open prison on earth.”
