Local man becomes a partner at top SA law firm

Spencer is an admitted attorney, conveyancer and notary who specialises in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) with specific focus on project financed transactions

Spencer Patrick Naicker, who hails from Ladysmith, is now a partner at one of the biggest law firms in South Africa.

Spencer was recently promoted to the position of partner in the Project Finance, Construction and Environment Practice within the Banking, Projects & Regulatory Business Unit at Webber Wentzel.

Webber Wentzel is an African law firm with its headquarters in Johannesburg. The firm operates in a collaborative alliance with global law firm Linklaters and is the South African associate of the largest African association of law firms, ALN (formerly the African Legal Network). The firm is considered a member of the ‘Big Five’ leading South African law firms.

Spencer matriculated from Ladysmith Secondary School (Lasec) and decided to make something of himself in the “banking world”. However, destiny saw him gravitate towards the world of law. He is an admitted attorney, conveyancer and notary who specialises in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) with specific focus on project financed transactions.

Spencer has an LLB Degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and certificates in ‘Advanced Corporate Law’ and ‘Land and Water Law’ from the University of the Witwatersrand. He served as Senior Legal Counsel prior to returning to practice in 2011. He has previous experience in the petroleum, retail and private equity spheres, with specific focus on property transactions.

His practice experience also includes drafting general corporate and commercial agreements, commercial leases and notarial leases, development management agreements, property management agreements, shareholders’ agreements and security documents.

Spencer is the son of Patrick and Pauline Naicker. “We are very proud of our son’s achievements and wish him everything of the very best in the future” says mum Pauline.
