Green light for private animal shelter

This shelter will rely solely on funds from local government, businesses and individuals

News that the Estcourt and District SPCA had closed was received with shock and disappointment from locals and residents throughout the country. The notion that an essential service like animal welfare was forced to close enraged some and evoked sympathetic statements from others.

The previous SPCA committee know these feelings all too well and have been hard at work seeking alternatives, advice, funding and ideas.
Dave McFie who has been instrumental in fundraising and financially assisting the Estcourt and District SPCA previously told the Estcourt News that a plan was in the pipeline to open a private animal welfare shelter.

This shelter will rely solely on funds from local government, businesses and individuals. Last week Mr McFie reported that this idea is taking shape and negotiations are going well. This plan could soon start taking shape.
