Bound, robbed and raped

A rape victim was attacked, tied up, robbed and violated behind a shopping centre in February.

According to reports, a 31-year-old man is in custody, facing rape and robbery charges in connection with the sinister deed, which took place in the Madadeni/Blaauwbosch area.

It is believed the suspect asked the victim to meet at Theku Plaza in Blaauwbosch.

However, he instead intercepted the victim at a garage along Albert Wessels Drive, dragging her into the veld where he bound and raped her.

The suspect then stole the victim’s shoes, cellphone and money.

In a response to national media, KwaZulu-Natal provincial SAPS commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said any form of violence directed at women and children would be dealt with intensely.

“Detectives will work around the clock to establish if suspects are not wanted for other crimes within the province.”

She further appealed to victims of rape to open cases and report to the SAPS.
