Son out on bail for dad’s alleged murder

61-year-old Mr Danny Maharaj is dead after an argument between him and his son turned deadly on Wednesday night last week. His son, Navesh Marharaj, appeared in ‘C’ court at the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court this morning.

He was released on bail of R1500 and will appear in court again on May 5. According to court papers, he faces a charge of murder.

The full police report received this morning reads as follows:

Police are investigating a case of murder. Over the weekend a 60 year old man died as a result of injuries he sustained during an assault which happened on 1 April 2015 at his home in Tanjore Road. The deceased’s 36 year old son was subsequently arrested for the murder and is set to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court this morning.

Update: However it is understood the house belonged to family and not Mr Danny Maharaj.
