Appeals for intervention after failed water meeting

Over 80 residents gathered on the grounds and waited for close to an hour for the officials, before leaving, infuriated that they were let down once again.

Dannhauser residents have had enough following another failed meeting between them and Amajuba District Municipality to discuss water woes plaguing the town.
Following two previous failed meetings, residents were keen to iron out issues and find a way forward.
However, despite Amajuba District calling for the meeting on March 19 at 6pm, no one from the municipality showed. Over 80 residents gathered on the grounds and waited for close to an hour for the officials, before leaving, infuriated that they were let down once again.
Pravin Nair and Colin Krause, who have spearheaded the campaign, said that they were tired of dealing with the municipality and would be taking their plight to higher powers. Among their growing concerns is that water problems are never sorted out in town.
Mr Nair explained that Amajuba staff would not fix any leaks or problems unless a job card was filled out, even if they were aware of the problem themselves.
“There’s no logic behind it, it’s poor mentality.”
They also want to address the issues of illegal connections, why some accounts were written off and not others and why residents are expected to pay the same amount for sewerage as they do for their water usage.
Mr Krause said they were appealing to the MEC of COGTA to intervene in the matter. “We need an intervention and we need it now,” he said.
“It’s clear that the left-hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing at the Municipality,” Mr Nair added.
