The employee who wished to remain anonymous has spent many years in the industry and has come to deal with many irate customers. “People see us and give us bad looks thinking we are at fault when in actual fact we are also consumers. Load shedding also affects us.
The biggest number of irate customers come from the farming sector because supply and demand are affected by the supply of electricity. The employee spoke about many times when farmers stormed in, inquiring about why the electricity had gone off.
“In most cases the problem has to first be diagnosed and this is a tedious process as one electrical grid possesses hundreds of lines,” the employee explained.

Tempers also flare because Glencoe does not experience load shedding. This also poses an issue to the employees as they are always under attack, as a result.
The reason for this is attributed to the fact that Glencoe has a small line and electricity consumption is low.
The men and women at Eskom also face other challenges besides irate customers such as working long hours to repair faulty transformers, working come rain or sunshine.
And the biggest challenge of all is putting their lives in danger every day.
Dealing with electrical voltage ranging from 11000 watts and above, many workers have lost their lives and incurred great bodily harm.
The workers nonetheless preserve and get the job done. So the next time the electricity goes off, spare a thought for the men and women who are working tirelessly to repair it. Before one gets aggrieved think about the long procedures and the dangers these people face.
