Sting operation nets 4 robbers

The suspects were being sought by police in connection with several cases of business robbery, as well as attempted murder

Four suspects were netted in an intelligence-driven operation in the Ematsheni area on Wednesday. The operation was carried out by Ladysmith Crime Intelligence and Ematsheni police officers.

The suspects were being sought by police in connection with several cases of business robbery, as well as attempted murder, in the area during February and March this year.

The victims of the crimes were all foreign nationals. They were held at gunpoint and robbed at their place of business.

In one instance, the victim was stabbed several times and almost disembowelled.

Four men aged between 20 and 30 were arrested on Wednesday in connection with these offences. Two stolen cell-phones were recovered in their possession. The suspects made an appearance in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, has applauded the officers for arresting the suspects. “This shows there is no place to hide for criminals and police will continue to work hard to fight crime in the province,” she said.
