Drug peddler busted by K9 Unit

The seized drugs will be sent away for analysis

The Ladysmith Dog Unit (K9) dealt a blow to the drug trade in town when they arrested two suspects this morning (Monday).

The K9 Unit’s Constable Ndela and Constable Naiker received information that a suspected drug peddler was plying his trade close to a local training centre. The officers went out in search of the suspect and their perseverance paid off a short while later when they spotted him in a shopping mall.

On searching the individual, they found 11 mandrax tablets and 20 whoonga straws.He was immediately placed under arrest.

Further investigation led them to a premises in Forbes Street, where another individual was found and arrested for being in possession of two mandrax tablets. The value of the drugs is estimated at around R1600.

The suspects, aged 22 and 47, are set to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court later this week.

The seized drugs will be sent away for analysis.
