IFP demands apology over Councillor’s comment

Councillor says she will not withdraw her statement.

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has rejected allegations by ward three Councillor, Lungile Mbhele, that the unrest in Sithembile had been orchestrated by the party.
She told the Courier that the people who are ‘the master minds behind the commotion in Sithembile are IFP supporters.’
Violence broke out in Sithembile after angry residents accused Councillor Mbhele of manipulating a Transnet job list.
The IFP constituency in Glencoe reacted angrily to the claims and asked that she withdraw her statement. But Councillor Mbhele reiterated her statement when told by the Courier that the IFP outright rejected the allegations.
“I will not withdraw my statement. I stand by what I said because it is IFP supporters who are behind all of this. It is why I say this protest is politically motivated,” said an adamant Councillor Mbhele.
