Hazardous storm drain overlooked

Sagittarius Road residents see the uncovered storm drain as a danger, as a primary school is situated down the road (Capricorn Road)

A storm water drain without a cover is a hazard waiting to unfold for the residents of Sagittarius Road in Colita.
One drain is currently without a cover and residents have no idea as to what had happened to the previous concrete cover.

Sagittarius Road residents see the uncovered storm drain as a danger, as a primary school is situated down the road (Capricorn Road). This means that children walk this road at least twice a day in order to get to and from school.

Residents agreed that “a child could get seriously injured if they fell in”. The uncovered drain is a danger for many pedestrians who utilise the route daily to get to work, young children and roaming pets.

The residents’ biggest fear is when the narrow sidewalk on which the storm drain is situated becomes occupied, which will result in the children walking on the road and is more dangerous. “My heart will be at ease once the storm drain is covered and cleaned from all the litter thrown in it,” said one concerned resident.
