Selfless 6-year-old gives back

“We shared love and compassion and my children felt so good to share. The elderly should be treasured- not forgotten,” Mrs Clayton concluded.

Hannah Clayton proved size did not matter when one wanted to make a difference.

After recently celebrating her sixth birthday, Hannah said she wanted to visit La Gratitude and use her birthday money to buy cakes and treats for the elderly residents. Lauren Clayton, Hannah’s mother, decided to grant her daughter’s wish.

“There are about 107 people, so I asked if anyone could assist with baking product donations,” Mrs Clayton said.

“Mohamed Seedat from Remax and my hubby, who works for Mortimer Toyota in Ladysmith, donated cash so Hannah and I were able to buy the ingredients.”

Spending last Thursday and Friday afternoons baking, Hannah’s wish of bringing joy to the elderly was realised on Saturday.

Hannah, along with her siblings, Matt and Joshua, as well as her mum and two of Mrs Clayton’s friends, Kim McArthur and Anelda Booysen, gave each of the elderly residents a biscuit and a cupcake.

Despite the gratitude shown by the elderly, Mrs Clayton claimed it was she and her children who were the grateful ones.

“We shared love and compassion and my children felt so good to share. The elderly should be treasured- not forgotten,” Mrs Clayton concluded.
