Fast-acting police arrest suspects minutes after attack

The suspects were cornered by TRT officers at the taxi rank

Police arrested several men in connection with the brutal attack on an elderly couple about two hours ago.

The well-known Indian couple were held up and assaulted by robbers at their home just after 1.30pm. The couple own a tuck shop in the Leonardsville area.

Four male suspects entered the premises through the back entrance, and tied up the husband and wife using cable ties. The wife was hit in the face and a gag was stuffed into her mouth to stop her from screaming.

The robbers demanded cash, and proceeded to take cigarettes and 2 cell-phones. They then fled the scene.

A massive manhunt was launched under the personal command of Ladysmith Station Commissioner Brigadier Kunene.

The suspects were cornered by TRT officers at the taxi rank and brought to the scene of the crime.

Earlier, the Ladysmith Gazette reported on a spike in house robberies in the Ladysmith area.
