Water danger in Murchison Street ignored by uThukela staff

Pedestrians had a hard time trying to avoid the water pooling all over the place

A massive pipe burst saw millions of litres of water literally gushing down Murchison Street this morning (Friday).

Pedestrians had a hard time trying to avoid the water pooling all over the place.

Raw sewage was also seen floating around.

A huge hole, not cordoned off with tape, filled up to the brim with water. The hole isĀ about waist-deep and definitely poses a danger. It was only after staff from the Ladysmith Gazette took an interest in the depth of the hole (see video) that uThukela staff began warning people to stay clear. Up until then, people could be seen jumping over the hole or walking around its edge.

The burst pipe has not yet been fixed.
