Dangerously muddy roads

Muddy and dangerously slippery roads have been reported in Heritage Road and New Formosa D500

When rainfall peaks, some gravel roads in Estcourt become inaccessible. Muddy and dangerously slippery roads have been reported in Heritage Road and New Formosa D500. In Heritage Road, the path leading to the State Vet’s office is a watery and uneven surface during times of rainfall. A resident brought this to the Estcourt News’ attention and said that he had complained to Umtshezi Municipality, hoping that means to improve the drainage and lessen the water collecting on the surface would be sought but he did not receive a response.
According to Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Njoko, this complaint was not reported. “The matter will be attended to as soon as possible. It is the first time that the complaint has been brought to our attention,” she said. On the New Formosa D500 road, water accumulation after rain also makes this road inaccessible. Residents have to navigate large muddy puddles to enter or exit.
A resident said that assistance from the municipality had been requested over a month ago. “The complaint at New Formosa will be attended to once the weather conditions permit as this will need to be highly compacted with the grid roller to ensure sustainability,” commented Ms Njoko.
