Yard flooded, family seeks answers from municipality

The road is dotted with potholes and more recently a trench has been dug outside one of the homes after a pipe burst

Twelfth Street in Forderville is a real mess. The road is dotted with potholes and more recently a trench has been dug outside one of the homes after a pipe burst. To add insult to injury residents at number 15 have had to deal with water flooding their yard.

Last Wednesday Uthukela District Municipality staff was called in after the family spotted a leak outside their gate.
The leak emanated from what the family call a valve, which has been troublesome and leaks sporadically. “When the staff arrived, they opened the valve allowing the water to flow freely.

They then left it open and went for lunch. This caused a large amount of dirty water to flood our yard and it even seeped into the neighbour’s kitchen,” explained a family member. The resident says that when she pointed this out to Uthukela staff, they became aggressive and she was allegedly sworn at.Another resident remarked that the staff members proceeded to produce soap and washed themselves using the water leaking from the valve.

“We do not expect this kind of service, they were very rude. The flooding water is causing many problems in our yard. I cannot even hang out my baby’s clothes for fear of germs. We can’t live like this,” said the angry resident.
She demanded that the district municipality provide reasons for the leaking valve, the flooding of their yard and the alleged rude behaviour by staff members. These questions were posed to the Communication Officer but no response was received at the time of going to print.
