Swimmers excel in Chelmsford Challenge, Midmar Mile

The swimmers had good conditions to swim in and the spectators had a lovely hot summer’s day

12 Ladysmith Marlins swimmers travelled to Chelmsford for the annual Chelmsford Challenge on Saturday, January 31.

In the 3km event, JJ, Dian and Gustav had good swims. They had strong competition in the form of world-class swimmer Chad Ho and others. JJ ended second and Dian third. In the 1km event for men and women, it was also a tight battle for our swimmers. In the event for men, JJ and Dian chased each other, with JJ ending second and Dian third.

On Sunday, February 8, our swimmers travelled to Midmar Dam for the annual Midmar Mile. The swimmers had good conditions to swim in and the spectators had a lovely hot summer’s day. We are very proud of all our swimmers who swam in the different events. Two of our swimmers finished in the top 100 in the event 14-30 years. JJ ended 39th in a time of 20:47 and Dian 86th in a time of 22:39.

Cassidy did the ‘8 Mile’ and finished all the events in good times. In more than one of the events, she came in the top 10 of her category, taking nine minutes off her previous times.

Well done to all our swimmers!

This Saturday, the swimmers will have a last chance to improve their times and qualify for levels. The February age group gala will be in Newcastle, starting at 9am. Swimmers are to report at 8am.
