Face first into the arms of the law

The suspect attempted to flee the scene by jumping from the first floor after being cornered by the store owner.

A 32-year-old man was arrested for burglary on February 9 at around 9pm.

The man attempted to burgle a store in Murchison Street by forcing the gate open and breaking through the roof.

According to ER24 paramedic, Jan-Henk Van Vuuren, the suspect attempted to flee the scene by jumping from the first floor after being cornered by the store owner.

“Despite falling almost five metres, he sustained only minor facial injuries and was arrested by Newcastle SAPS Dog Unit’s Sergeant Daniel Trenerry and Warrant Officer Sasha Naidoo.”

SAPS spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela said: “The suspect is facing a charge of housebreaking with intention to commit a crime unknown to the prosecutor.”

The suspect is expected to appear before a court soon.
