Robbery suspect re-arrested after escaping from court

Mdunge escaped from the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on January 14 while awaiting to appear on charges of business robbery

A wanted suspect was arrested yesterday (Tuesday) in a joint operation between the Ladysmith Crime Intelligence Gathering Unit, Ladysmith Vispol Stock Theft Task Team, Ladysmith Dog (K9) Unit and Pietermaritzburg K9 Unit.

Information about the suspect’s whereabouts led the group of police officers to Pietermaritzburg, where they arrested 26-year-old Siyabonga Mdunge.

Mdunge escaped from the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on January 14 while awaiting to appear on charges of business robbery.

He is now set to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today (Wednesday) on charges of escaping from lawful custody and business robbery.

Police are also investigating possible links to other robberies in neighbouring towns.
