Possible electrical outages for entire town

Possible power outages should be expected across all suburbs for today and tomorrow.

A warning has been issued to residents by the Department of Electrical Services regarding possible power outages across town as Eskom carries out maintenance work today, January 15 and tomorrow, January 16.

The maintenance work is scheduled to take place between 8am and 4pm as Eskom looks to improve on and repair the 132kV powerlines which supply Newcastle with electricity.

According to Strategic Executive Director of Technical Services, Lindile Zincume the work is not expected to affect residents.

“There is a very low chance of the systems ‘tripping’ while the maintenance work is being carried out. However, we do not forsee this as being a problem, or as a high possibility,” he said.

The department felt obligated to inform the community about the possibility of this happening should the power trip during the process.

“We are confident that we will have power restored quickly should the power trip during the maintenance work. We hope that the community will understand should the power trip during this time.”
