DHS’s Raeesah is top of the lot

Raeesah advises the matriculants of 2015 to "work hard and believe in yourself."

With a smile on her lips and determination in her brain, Raeesah Sader took Umzinyathi by storm, when she scooped seven A’s and the highly esteemed title of being number one in the district.
Raeesah, a 2014 Dundee High matriculant, has brought immense pride to Dundee after acing all of her seven subjects which included Visual Arts, English, Afrikaans, Life Sciences, Life Orientation, Mathematical Literacy and Computer Application Technology.
When asked what the secrets behind her success were, she smiled and said, “hard work and relaxation because when you are stressed you tend to forget what you are studying, and, most importantly, believing in yourself”.
While many tend to cram during this period, Raeesah proved that this should not be the case and giggled when she spoke about how she relaxed by playing pool and talking to friends. She also advised that getting enough sleep, having a strong support system, praying and remaining dedicated helps.
She beamed when she spoke about her pillar of support – her brother Haroon and her mother.
When asked how it felt being number one in Umzinyathi, she replied saying “how excited she was and how she had not expected it”. Her journey however was not without curveballs.
The challenges she faced were: the battle of believing in herself, being persistent and time management.
“I was late on the first day of the final examination,” Raeesah chuckled. She will be heading for Witwaterstand University soon where she will study either psychology or law – two of her favourite career fields.
Raeesah is confused as to what she eventually wants to do but is leaning more towards the field of psychology to gain a better understanding of human nature.
She hopes to use this profession to understand people better, make a difference in society, and reduce and curb unfair treatment to people with mental disabilities. Raeesah advises the matriculants of 2015 to “work hard and believe in yourself.”
She also wished to extend her heartfelt gratitude to Mrs Arndt and Mrs Boshoff for their support.
