The KZN Transport Department’s Kwanele Ncalane says since Friday, December 12, the province has seen an influx of people arriving for their year-end breaks with an average of 1000-vehicles an hour passing through KZN’s toll gates.
According to Ncalane, a large number of people have already been arrested for drinking and driving.
Over 3300 traffic officials have been deployed on our roads this festive season.
Ncalane says they will be stepping up road blocks in the province.
“The MEC has ordered that in accident hot spots, roadblocks be conducted overnight. We have started those operations and I can say that some of these operations have started yielding results,” he said.
