Increased traffic flow expected on N3

With the festive season now in full swing, the N3 Toll Concession has issued a guideline to prepare for holiday goers.

Motorists can expect peak traffic conditions between Cedara in KwaZulu-Natal and Heidelberg in Gauteng this weekend.

This comes from a statement issued by N3 Toll Concession (N3TC), the company responsible for the management and operation of the N3 Toll Route between the area.

People are reminded that high traffic volumes expose drivers to greater risks while travelling.

However, N3TC and its partners are taking precautions to ensure the route is as safe as possible during this period.

While N3TC is taking the relevant precautions, motorists are urged to ensure they are well prepared for their journeys and have taken the required steps in order to deal with situations which may cause delays.

Ways to prepare for long distance travelling involves:

– Packing food and water into one’s vehicle, preparing for extra travel time and keeping the weather conditions in consideration, as it can change rapidly and wet weather conditions affect road visibility and roads are more slippery.

– Motorists are also encouraged to obtain the latest traffic and weather information for the N3 Route on Twitter @N3Route or by contacting the 24-hour N3TC Route Control Centre on 0800 63 4357 (0800 N3 HELP).

– Motorists are further encouraged to report all emergency situations and difficulties to the Route Control Centre.

If required, one of N3TC’s six Route Patrol Teams will be dispatched to provide assistance.

The patrol teams are highly trained and are capable of assisting at crash scenes and vehicle breakdowns.

They are also able to provide basic emergency medical care, assist with fire-fighting, remove hazardous objects from the road and provide regular route patrols to ensure conditions along the Route remain as safe as possible.

N3TC have further released a timetable of peak periods that are expected this festive season:
