Glencoe arm wrestlers wrestle their way to the top

All Iron Arms team members who achieved 1st or 2nd place at the SA nationals now qualify for the world championships to be held in USA.

Brian Hlabathi, Sibusiso Miya, Rivaan Ramsai and Marius De Waal did Glencoe proud when they represented the Iron Arm Wrestling Club at national level in Witbank. They scooped the following: Brian Hlabathi scooped the Junior arm-wrestler of the year, best arm-wrestling match of the day and Junior Boys best arm wrestler of the year.
Sibusiso Miya took 1st place junior boys U21kgs and is the new SA champion in his class. Rivaan Ramsai came 2nd in the men’s U90kg, and hot on his tail was Marius De Waal who came 3rd in the men’s U90kg class.
The event spanned over two days starting on November 27 when left arms were put to the test and on November 29 when it was right arms. On November 29, the night of right arm clashes was won by Sibusiso Miya, who once again proved too strong on the arm-wrestling table taking down all his opponents and finally going up against fellow Iron Arms team member Brian Hlabathi in the finals of the junior boys U80kgs class.
Sibusiso was crowned the new SA champion after defeating Brian who took second place thus earning himself a silver medal. In the mens U80kg class, Marius De Waal, who has been an Iron Arms member for the past 4 years, achieved his goal of becoming the SA champion when he easily took down opponents.
Legendary SA arm wrestler Dave Muil, who hails from Pietermaritzburg, took 3rd place in the mens U110kg class. Dave Muil is one of the founders of South African arm-wrestling and is a member of the Iron Arms arm-wrestling club.
Willem Delport from Amanzimtoti is the heaviest and strongest Iron Arms member and went up against the finest and best arm-wrestlers in the 110kg+ category. Willem got to the semi finals and achieved 3rd place after going down to arm-wrestler Hanco Nel from Nelspruit.
All Iron Arms team members who achieved 1st or 2nd place at the SA nationals now qualify for the world championships to be held in USA.Future KZN arm wrestling competitions will be held at local venues in 2015.
