Noisy neighbours cause sleepless nights

"We get no sleep because the trucks start from 5am. Even on Sunday, we have no peace because they are using angle grinders and washing the trucks"

A certain amount of tolerance is expected when dealing with noise pollution. But when do you decide to break the silence? At 3am when a truck is off-loading concrete poles close to your wall?

Or maybe at 5am when you’re woken to the sound of a truck starting up? These are just some of the situations that an Albert Street resident has been facing since construction workers took up residence next door. The resident, who asked not to be named, called the Estcourt News after exhausting several options to stop the disturbance that the neighbours have allegedly been causing. “The workers have been living at the property for over eight months and we are suffering due to the loud noises from trucks and angle grinders.

“We get no sleep because the trucks start from 5am. Even on Sunday, we have no peace because they are using angle grinders and washing the trucks,” explained the resident. After assessing the situation the resident says he approached the property agent to request intervention but got no response. “I even laid a complaint with the police but nothing has been done. What can we do? We are suffering here?” he asked. This resident’s concerns and questions have been forwarded to Umtshezi Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Njoko.
