Phil Hughes: Australian cricketer dies from head injury
Mr Hughes was struck by a bouncer bowled by Sean Abbot during a Sheffield Shield match at Sydney Cricket Ground on Monday.
Phil Hughes, a 25-year-old Australian cricket player, tragically passed away earlier today from a head injury he sustained during a cricket match.
Mr Hughes was  struck by a bouncer bowled by Sean Abbot during a Sheffield Shield match at Sydney Cricket Ground on Monday. The cricket ball was travelling at an approximate speed of 135 kilometers per hour.
He was treated on scene by paramedics for almost 40 minutes before being airlifted to a local hospital. He was kept in a medically induced coma and underwent surgery to reduce swelling on the brain.
Whilst in recovery, Mr Hughes tragically passed away.

Hughes, who had played 26 Tests, made his Test debut at the age of 20 against South Africa in 2009.
In only his second match, he became the youngest batsman to post two centuries in a single Test.
He played county cricket for Hampshire, Middlesex and Worcestershire and shared in what was at the time a world record 10th-wicket partnership of 163 with Ashton Agar against England in the 2013 Ashes series.
According to a report by Independent.co.uk, the manufacturer of the helmet Mr Hughes was wearing issued a statement, saying he had been wearing an outdated version of their protective head gear.
Sean Abbot, the bowler who bowled the fast ball that claimed Mr Hughes’ life is under constant supervision, as cricketing authorities fear for his state of mind.
