Newcastle Library leads the pack

"The new card system is an initiative making library services more efficient and safe. It is a smart card system linked to the latest technology,"

Out with the old and in with the new.

Bearing the need for constant innovation and improvement in mind, Newcastle Library Services is introducing new, more durable library cards to its members.

The project is a first for public libraries across KwaZulu-Natal.

Newcastle Library will be the first to implement the new membership card system. The outdated, laminated cards are a thing of the past.

“The new card system is an initiative making library services more efficient and safe. It is a smart card system linked to the latest technology,” said Mayor, Afzul Rehman.

Library card holders will be required to renew their membership free of charge, allowing their details and figures to be updated simultaneously.

New library card photographs will be taken at the libraries, making it easier and more efficient for prospective and current library members.

Newcastle Library Services invites all members to visit the library they are currently registered at and update their details.

Members have from November 2014 to April 2015 to renew their membership. After the cut-off date, all inactive memberships will be cancelled.

The following documentation is required for the application: your old membership card, Identity Document, birth certificate (only applicable to minors) and proof of residence.

As the needs of the society progress faster than the speed of light, it is commendable that Newcastle is at the forefront of the latest library-related technological innovation.

“The library is continuously undergoing changes to make the experience a more pleasant one,” concluded Councillor Rehman.

It is evident that Newcastle Library Services is taking steps in the right direction, keeping the needs of the community at heart at all times. With the proof being in the pudding, Newcastle library really is the leader of the pack.
