Sense of unease settles over Mimosa Crescent

"We all live in fear and don't even want to come out in our front yard"

“Most people are talking about the shooting incident and wondering what police are going to do to about security in Mimosa Crescent,” these were the words of a resident who called the Estcourt News twice in the past week. The resident, who did not want to be named, said that people living in the street, where a man was shot and killed in his home recently, are ‘terrified’.

She said that she was speaking on behalf of other residents who had contacted the police to request increased patrols as well as find out if any arrests have been made. “We were told by a policewoman that we have to be part of the Community Police Forum in order for police to increase patrols but I know this is not true,” commented the resident.

She added that since the fatal shooting on Sunday, November 2 she has not seen a single police vehicle. “We all live in fear and don’t even want to come out in our front yard. We don’t know what’s going to happen next but what we want to know is what will the police be doing to help us,” added the Mimosa Crescent resident. These concerns as well as a request for an update on the investigation were forwarded to police spokesperson Captain JS Sokhela, no response was received at the time of going to print.
