Murderer sentenced to 21 years imprisonment

Convicted murderer Sipho ‘Nqeza’ Kubheka was sentenced to a combined 21 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of murder and attempted murder. The sentencing has been applauded by police management as well as MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Willies Mchunu.

On September 16, 2014 the accused shot and killed 25-year-old Bholi Ngcobo and shot and wounded Sizwe Vilakazi in Cornfields. The crime was committed during the early hours of the morning. The case was investigated by two Estcourt detectives, Detective Sergeant Ntuli and Detective Constable Vilakazi who arrested and charged the accused three days later.

“The case was remanded several times until October 31 when it was finalised in the Estcourt Regional Court.
“The accused was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment for murder and eight years for attempted murder,” commented police spokesperson Captain JS Sokhela.

He added that the Estcourt Station Commander has praised the efforts of the two detectives. The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant Mmamonnye Ngobeni has also commended the investigating team for successfully securing the conviction. MEC Mchunu said: “I thank the police for a job well done in apprehending this man and ensuring that he faces the full might of the law. This sentence proves that the police are really committed to ensuring the safety of the people in the province.”
