In its efforts to combat elderly abuse, NOFTA will be building a safe house where elderly people who are destitute or abused will be able to find refuge and help.

Rajesh Ramdaw, NOFTA chairperson, said construction is expected to begin in January 2015 and the house will be erected on the NOFTA Service Centre’s premises.

“We want to create a safe environment where people can live for a maximum of three months. We will then either try to reunite the person with their family or attempt to make arrangements with old age homes to take the person in,” Mr Ramdaw explained.

While the plans are set in motion, NOFTA requires the community’s financial assistance or other donations.
