Bayer HealthCare has issued a notice regarding the ongoing shortages of certain vaccines for livestock and animals.

Onderstepoort Biological Products (OBP) vaccines have been in short supply since mid 2014. The letter was aimed at providing an update on the availability of the medicine to farmers.

Blue tongue vaccine

Only a limited quantity of Blue Tongue vaccine B and C will be released in November 2014. The Blue Tongue A will follow at a later stage, after tests have been completed. The procedure for the distribution of the Blue Tongue vaccines will be communicated at a later stage.

Horsesickness vaccine

Horsesickness vaccine that was made available is being distributed proportionately to all clients. All back orders have been cancelled and clients will be informed when to place new orders. If the balance of all outstanding orders is supplied by OBP your orders will be delivered normally. Otherwise, proportional distribution will be done.

B-Phemeral (Three day stiff sickness)

No vaccine has been received and the preliminary date has moved to the end of November. The distribution of available vaccines is an emergency measure to assist OBP until they are back in full production.

If the correct amount of vaccine is not distributed among farmers, the farming industry could face substantial losses.
