How’s That! Another century for Don Patterson

Coming to the rescue were first-team's Captain and Vice-Captain Don Paterson and Tristan Pickering

Treverton hosted Alex on an overcast cool day. The visitors won the toss and sent Treverton in to bat. Losing two quick wickets for six runs on a green pitch the home side were in trouble. Coming to the rescue were first-team’s Captain and Vice-Captain Don Paterson and Tristan Pickering, who though Matrics, busy writing their IEB final grade 12 exams, opted to play another match for Treverton.

They saved the match and showed the younger members of the team how to rescue a match. The 124 run partnership of Don and Tristan saw them heading for a win. Don scored a back to back century on last week’s one (119) and Tristan another milestone fifty (68), he also scored a half-century in the match the previous week. The final total after 50 overs was 303 all out. After lunch, Alex came to the crease under heavy skies and looming rain.

They never really got going and only a steady drizzle, which had set in could save them. A good captain’s move saw Don Paterson bring on the spinners to clean up the tail and Alex could only post 69 all out. Best bowler of the day was grade 10 Jerome Klopper (3-16). The result was that Treverton had another spectacular win by 233 runs!
Opposition teams should not believe that future matches against Treverton would be a breeze.

There are a number of promising junior cricketers. In the U15 match against Alex, Justin Caldecott proved that he will be a force to be reckoned with, when he scored his century and was out for 106 runs and then took six wickets for five runs!
