UNLICENSED firearms and ammunition were seized at the Manqomfini area in Nongoma on the morning of October 24.

Nongoma Crime Prevention members received information about two suspects, aged 29 and 32, who were in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Upon searching the premises of the suspects, members recovered two pistols, two magazines, two black holsters and 15 live rounds of ammunition. The suspects failed to produce a license to possess firearms and were arrested and charged.

The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they have been used in any other crimes in the province. Both suspects will appear in the Nongoma Magistrates’ Court.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended the good work done by the Nongoma members for the recovery of the unlicensed firearms.

“We appeal to the community to work closely with the police as we approach the festive season and to give us information regarding illegal firearms in their area,” she said.
