Instant message for an instant abortion

Consulting with an abortion 'doctor' is now just a message away.

Whatsapp may provide an easy way to keep in touch with friends, family or colleagues but it’s also proving valuable for the darker deeds of society.

Illegal abortion ‘doctors’ are using the instant messenger to conduct their business, luring in desperate girls who can’t always phone them.

The Courier  recently conducted an investigation into how easy it would be to set up an appointment to have a ‘safe, pain free’ abortion done.

A journalist pretended to be a desperate girl called Khanyi and messaged the ‘doctor’ for help.

The doctor, who refused to give his name, said that it would cost R300.

He also stated that he operated near Standard Bank but would not disclose his exact location.

While it may have been just a fake case to see how the ‘doctors’ do business, the shocking reality is that many girls do turn to them when they feel they have nowhere else turn.
