Name: Ashleigh McGhee
Age: 22
Give a brief description of what you are currently doing: I am studying Education and Teaching at Hilldrop Heritage School.

In what year did you enter Miss Newcastle? 2012 and 2013.

Why did you enter Miss Newcastle?  After entering and competing in the pageant would you recommend that other young girls should enter? I entered because I felt that is was a source of entertainment and a good way to make friends. I would recommend it to other girls because they will learn a lot, from confidence to being able to communicate properly with others.

How do you think that entering Miss Newcastle has changed your life? I feel that I have gained a lot of experience from dealing with many different situations and I am able to translate that into my everyday life.

What were some of the biggest challenges you experienced throughout the competition? I am not the most outgoing person and I can be very shy. I found that dealing with many different people I did not know was the most challenging part for me. It was also difficult being the centre of attention when doing the speeches and main walks.

Do you think that some of these challenges changed into strengths by the end of the competition? I definitely do. I really enjoyed doing the individual walks and had a lot of fun through the competition which is one of the main reasons why you should enter in the first place.

What was the most memorable part of competing in Miss Newcastle? The main event was amazingly fun and it was an honour to work with Kevin Ellis and all his different outfits.

What have you gained from taking part in the competition? How do you think this will benefit you going forward? I have learnt to work with many different types of people, as well as learning to speak in public which benefits me greatly as speaking in front of people is part of my everyday life.
