Are you abreast with No Bra Day?

Is the celebration of women being braless empowering or objectifying?

October 13 is ‘No Bra Day’ – a day allowing the beautiful ladies of the world the chance to go ‘without restraints’ in spirit of breast cancer awareness.

The day was originally celebrated on July 9, but was later moved to October as it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, public service and medical organisations, as well as government organisations, work together to promote breast cancer awareness.

Showing your support for this day is easy – just let ‘the girls’ free… is this a bit unfair for men? It doesn’t have to be: they can celebrate by wearing purple.

While many people nationwide gear up to show their support, many question whether the celebration of women being braless empowering or objectifying?

Are we really showing our support by showcasing what we have, while many other women who have had breast cancer or are battling against breast cancer are left with the sore reminder of the disease, having had their breasts surgically removed, being left with nothing to showcase?

Let us know how you feel, and whether you will be celebrating.
