Two in court for stealing guards firearm and assaulting him

It is alleged the security guard’s service firearm fell off as the men were attacking him.

Senzelo Mlangeni (18) and Andile Radebe (20) appeared in Nquthu Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, common robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
On Saturday, September 27 at approximately 5,45pm the two suspects went to the Mondlo Municipal offices to buy electricity. They attacked the security guard after an argument. He was assaulted and overpowered during the struggle. It is alleged the security guard’s service firearm fell off as they were attacking him.
The men fled with the firearm, leaving the injured security guard on the scene. After an investigation by Mondlo SAPS the suspects were arrested and charged after they were found in possession of the complainant’s firearm.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended police at Mondlo for the swift arrests. “We cannot allow members of the community to behave in such a manner and the fact that they deprived the security officer of his firearm is an indication of a deeper underlying criminal propensity,” she said.
