Warning: What lurks inside your taps?

While running her evening bath, a Parade Road resident was startled when a lizard fell out of the cold water tap

Ladysmith residents, it seems that you are not the only ones who are suffering in this dry and hot weather. House lizards have also resorted to other measures to keep cool. These little creatures have now decided to climb into taps to seek comfort from the blistering heat.

While running her evening bath, a Parade Road resident was startled when a lizard fell out of the cold water tap.

“I had put the plug in, then opened the hot water tap. After that, I went to the kitchen to sort something out and when I returned, I opened the cold water tap. That’s when I saw the creature,” she said. “I wasn’t really afraid of it, as I am used to these creatures being in my house. They don’t bother me much because they’re harmless and they catch and eat mosquitoes.”

It is important to note that the lizard did not come from the water supply itself, but had crawled into the tap. The inside of taps and pipes seems to be the ideal location for lizards due to the moisture and coolness.

That being said, this is a reminder for Ladysmith residents to be wary of whatever might be lurking inside their taps. Be cautious: Make sure you open the tap and let the water run a little into a small container to ensure that you do not drink anything unsavoury.
