Suspects in King Street murder to appear in court

Further investigation led to the arrest of an alleged hit-man in the Hobsland area

Two suspects will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday) for the murder of a man who was found at his home in King Street recently. The body of 67-year-old Teleni Christopher Shongwe was found at his house in King Street with a gunshot wound to the head.

On Tuesday evening, September 23,  police from the Ladysmith SAPS Community Service Centre (CSC) received valuable information concerning the murder.

The police officers immediately sprang into action and arrested a 39-year-old man in King Street, who is suspected to be linked to the incident.

Further investigation led to the arrest of an alleged hit-man, aged 34, in the Hobsland area and the recovery of the suspected murder weapon, a licensed firearm.

It is alleged that the two masterminded the killing of Mr Shongwe. A pistol and 40 rounds of ammunition, as well as a cell-phone, have been secured as evidence.

The motive for the killing is still unclear.
