There’s light at the end of Bhekuzulu’s tunnel

Since it was sabotaged on Monday night, Bhuekuzulu and parts of the industrial area have been without electricity.

The municipal substation located in the vicinity of the intersection of South Street and Stretch Crescent was set alight, it is thought by striking municipal staff, and completely destroyed.

Even today, Wednesday, is appears to be a burnt-out ruin.

But efforts are being made to bypass this substation so that at least power can be restored to the affected areas, as a temporary measure.

Word is that by late this afternoon, perhaps early this evening, or maybe later tonight, power will return to Bhekuzulu.

To protect municipal property, a 24-hour armed guard has been appointed to 25 identified strategic points, including this substation.
