Town’s water supply sabotaged

Monday, about 3:30pm, a municipal bakkie was seen in the fenced off area which encloses the town’s water reservoirs up on Vryheid Hill. Four men were seen, and they used a key to open the gate.

Probably with a heavy hammer, they knocked a hole through the main pipe that brings water from the Klipfontein  Purification Plant to the reservoirs. From these reservoirs, Vryheid, Bhekuzulu and Lakeside households and businesses get their water.

As a result of this sabotage by striking municipal workers, who also trashed the CBD today, residents can expect to be without water some time this evening, when the reservoirs and pipes run dry.

Please, use water sparingly, the less you use the longer it will last.
