A seven-year-old girl was lucky to escape with only minor injuries after she was hit by a car in Olympic Street, opposite S.E. Vawda School this afternoon.
According to reports the motorist was travelling down Olympic Street towards the school when the girl apparently ran across the road without looking in both directions.
“She ran across the road, without looking in the direction I was coming from,” explained the motorist, who was thankful she had not been driving fast at the time.
Margery Meijerink, spokesperson for ER 24 Newcastle said the Grade 2 child had sustained a minor abrasion to her arm and was in shock.
The child was in a stable condition after being treated on scene by paramedics.
