‘MasterChefs’ handle the heat

On Friday August 1, Amajuba High School hosted Newcastle’s very own MasterChef competition.

Six aspiring chefs prepared a starter and dessert for judging. While the judges put their taste buds to work, the contestants had to prepare for the next round. The challenge put to contestants was to make perfect peanut butter pretzel chocolate cross balls using only a few kitchen utensils within a limited period of time.

As contestants slaved away preparing their desserts, the crowd was entertained with games and lucky draws. After much deliberation, the judges decided to put Joany-Ann Campher and Miss Newcastle, Amy Bushell through to the final round.

Joany-Ann managed to win the judges over with her final meal and was crowned Amajuba’s MasterChef 2014.

Amajuba High School looks forward to hosting the event again next year.
