VIDEO: Assault on foreign national caught on video

WARNING: Graphic images - A video of a Pakistani man, being assaulted by alleged rival cellphone shop owners on Monday, has surfaced.

Newcastle – A video showing four men, believed to be Pakistani foreign nationals assaulting another Pakistani man has surfaced.

The men, believed to be rival cellphone shop owners, are seen attacking the 27-year-old man with hammers and sticks.

The shop owner, who chose to remain anonymous for fear of his life, said the men had also taken approximately R20 000 in cash.

Allegedly, a case was opened for the assault and robbery. Despite the surveillance footage as evidence, the case was reportedly thrown out of the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court today; the reason for this is still being investigated.

The assault portrayed in the video is believed to have been the catalyst which led to the murder of a 24-year-old Pakistani foreign national on Tuesday, in broad daylight on Allen Street.

According to a family member of the deceased, the conflict has been ongoing for some time and it is believed the murder victim was involved in business dealings with his murderers.

Police investigations are ongoing and we will bring you updates as the story unfolds.
