Nongoma water supply at stake

Many community members in the Nongoma area have been left without water as a result of theft.
Rural communities have been the hardest hit with thieves targeting water engine pumps since the beginning of the year.
The Zululand District Municipality’s Lucky Dumakude says theft is impacting on the already serious water shortage situation in Nongoma.
The pumps are said to cost about R100 000 each.
Dumakude is calling on residents to report the culprits.
“We are struggling to get other engines because we only get them from overseas. So it takes a long time for us to replace those engines,” he said in an interview.
“We are urging the community to beware of people who are stealing engines,” he concluded.
