Husband and wife arrested for fraud?

It is alleged that elderly social grant applicants were transported to the grants office and charged a fee by the suspects.

A husband and wife, along with a third person, have been arrested for alleged social grant fraud.
Police made the arrests on Monday after an ongoing investigation revealed that the three suspects were allegedly ‘arranging’ fraudulent social grants for a ‘fee’.
According to police, three people (aged 54, 39 and 35) were placed under arrest for alleged fraud after an incident was reported by the South African Social Security Grant Agency (SASSA).
It is alleged that elderly social grant applicants were transported to the grants office and charged a fee by the suspects.
While there, the applicants were requested to obtain the necessary documents, which were then filled in by the suspects.
During the process, false doctor consultation notes were obtained and attached to the application, which the applicants then handed in to SASSA.
The three suspects face charges of fraud and appeared briefly in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where they were released pending further investigation.
