Victim nabs fleeing robber

The tenant and security technician were successful in catching and apprehending the man

A housebreaking suspect was arrested on Monday night after being seen leaving a home in the Egerton area.

A tenant at the house arrived home to see a man leaving the property on foot. He was initially shocked, but then adrenaline kicked in. He shouted at the intruder and gave chase on foot.

A neighbour, who happens to be an NN Alarms technician, had also just arrived home and heard the shouting. He responded by jumping back into his bakkie and joining the chase.

The tenant and security technician were successful in catching and apprehending the man.

They held him down until a response unit from NN Alarms arrived. Speaking about the ordeal, the resident and the security technician  both said they acted on instinct to protect their families and property, not knowing if there were more suspects or if they had weapons.

The tenant asked not to be named. The suspect was arrested at the scene and has been charged with breaking and entering.
